How do I transfer my prescription to another pharmacy?Updated 8 months ago
Transferring to another pharmacy is generally slower and more expensive, so we recommend using our pharmacy. We offer a price-match guarantee and the option to upgrade to expedited shipping. If you decide to transfer, here’s how to do it:
How to transfer to a local pharmacy
If you’d like to transfer prescriptions your vet sent in your treatment plan to a local pharmacy, you may see the option to transfer the prescription below the “Go to checkout” button in the cart your vet creates for you. Just follow the onscreen instructions to transfer the medication and pay the $5 transfer fee. The transfer can take 2 to 3 days.
Don’t see the option to transfer in your cart? Please email [email protected] to request a transfer.
Please note: Most local pharmacies don’t offer prescriptions that are designed specifically for pets. Costco has a full pet pharmacy — and you don’t need a membership to get prescriptions there. We recommend transferring to Costco to eliminate any delays caused by a pharmacy not offering your pet’s prescription.
How to transfer to an online pharmacy
Once you have a treatment plan with a prescription from the vet, place your order at your preferred online pharmacy that accepts prescriptions from online vet services. Be sure to include the vet’s name and list dutch.com as the platform. Please have them email [email protected] to confirm the prescription.
Please note: Several online pharmacies, including Chewy and PetMeds (or 1800PetMeds), don’t currently accept prescriptions from online vet services.
How prescriptions we don’t carry are transferred
If we don’t carry the medication, the vet will send you a message and we’ll work with you to transfer the medication to your preferred pharmacy. There’s no fee to transfer prescriptions we don’t carry.
How to get a price matched
Found a better price for a medication elsewhere? Send us an email with a screenshot of the price available at another U.S. pharmacy to [email protected] and we’ll match that price.
Why is there a $5 fee to transfer some prescriptions to a local pharmacy?
While using our pharmacy is an automated process, transferring prescriptions to another pharmacy requires our team to spend time working with the local pharmacy to get the transfer verified and approved. And because many pet prescriptions aren’t available at human pharmacies, this sometimes involves finding another local pharmacy that carries the medication. Due to the time this takes, there’s a single $5 processing fee to transfer prescriptions that are currently available through Dutch. There's no fee to transfer prescriptions that we don't carry. If your pet is prescribed a combination of medications that aren’t available through us and those that are, you’ll pay $5 if you transfer any prescriptions that we have in stock.
